The green skin pomelo orchard in Thanh Hai commune is cultivated by safe procedure toward organic trend.

Acknowledging the consequences of fast increasing citrus area in short period of time, the district recommends the farmers not to expand cultivation area on the band wagon; makes plan and enhances fruit technical training course following VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic trend for farmers while communicating them to use bio products in disease prevention.

Tan Moc commune grows 780 ha of citrus fruits, down nearly 300 ha comparing to previous time. The Chairman of the communal People’s Committee Vu Van Giap said: “Many local households grew sweet orange and harvested good fruits with high quality only in the first season then suffered loss in the next crops due to disease and worm. From the fact, local authority recommended them not to grow orange and pomelo in low or too high lands; improve the quality of available citrus fruit area without more expansion while providing technical training course under VietGAP”.

The green skin pomelo orchard of Nguyen Van Huu in Se Cu village, Thanh Hai commune is laden with good looking fruits.

By well applying VietGAP cultivation technique, nearly 5,000 sweet and yellow flesh orange trees of Nguyen Van Mau in Dong Quyt village, Tan Moc commune always give good fruits with high quality.

Mau shared that his family earned not much for bad looking fruits with poor quality in previous seasons due to he used chemical fertilizers to care for the fruit trees. Since he followed VietGAP procedure to use organic fertilizers, the citrus trees are laden with sweeter fruits, giving high productivity. Last year, Mau harvested 60 tonnes of oranges and pocketed nearly 900 million VND excluding the production cost.

According to the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development in Luc Ngan district (Division), to sustainably develop the citrus fruit, the district has built cultivation area map to define each kind of soil for suitable fruit trees while increasing the intensive growing area under VietGAP procedure toward organic trend.

So far, the district has developed over 2,000 ha of citrus fruit under VietGAP procedure, mostly in the communes of Tan Moc, Tan Quang, Hong Giang, Thanh Hai and Phuong Son.

Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee Nguyen The Thi said Luc Ngan is planning the cultivation areas again so as to suit each kind of fruit trees; assisting localities to build cooperatives and working groups; forming concentrated growing area with high scale under VietGAP procedure toward organic trend and application of high technology; establishing concentrated growing area meeting GlobalGAP standard.
