Luc Ngan orchard owners apply biosafety procedure to care for lychee farms

(BGO) -  As the key lychee production area in the northern province of Bac Giang, together with harvesting early ripen lychee, the orchard owners in Luc Ngan district are now focusing on the main lychee and late ripen lychee areas to ensure the quality and safe products.

The biosafety lychee orchards

The lychee orchard of over 3ha of Tran Thi Huong in Lam village, Nam Duong commune has recently been at flesh gaining stage with quickly growing fruits. The whole area is grown under Global GAP standard.

The main season lychee orchard owned by the family of Tran Thi Huong in Lam village, Nam Duong commune (Luc Ngan district) is cultivated under GlobalGAP procedure.

“Since firmly knowing the cultivation technique, my lychee orchard is always laden with fruits which enjoy easy consumption. In case of favorable weather till the end of this season, we expect to harvest nearly 70 tonnes of fruits,” Huong shared.

According to the staff of agriculture encouragement in Nam Duong commune Nguyen Van Thi, the commune has 470 ha of lychee grown under biosafety and VietGAP procedures and 15 ha of lychee cared in line with GlobalGAP standard with growing area code to export to Japan.

Following these above mentioned procedures, the farmers mostly use organic fertilizers and bio products to care for the lychee to have good looking and safe fruits with high quality.

Similarly, the lychee orchard of over 1.5 ha of Tran Ngoc Xuan family in Quy Thinh village, Quy Son commune has cultivated under GlobalGAP procedure for years.

Xuan said: “Last year, we harvested more than 20 tonnes of fruits. With the average selling price of 30 – 35,000 VND (1.29 – 1.51 USD) per kg at the orchard, I earned benefit of over 400 million VND (17,200 USD). This year, my lychee orchard yields an estimated output of 30 tonnes of fruits”.

Currently, Luc Ngan district has more than 15,000 ha of lychee, mostly cultivated under biosafety procedure. Many owners recorded the whole cultivation process to ease the origin traceability.

Only allowed materials are used

According to the district Division of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), the district expects to harvest total quantity of 85,000 tonnes of lychee, including about 20,000 tonnes of early ripen lychee and 65 – 67,000 tonnes of main season lychee.

Currently, Luc Ngan district has more than 15,000 ha of lychee, mostly cultivated under biosafety procedure. Every year, the farmers are provided with training courses toward clever application of safe cultivation procedure. Many owners record the whole cultivation process to ease the origin traceability.

The district is home to more than 200 ha of lychee granted with growing area codes for export to high demanding markets, 50 ha of which in 4 communes of Nam Duong, Ho Dap, Tan Son and Quy Son are selected for Japanese one.

Tang Van Huy, Head of the district DARD informed that the main season lychee is at flesh gaining stage. To ensure the productivity and quality, the competent agencies has instructed the orchard owners to focus on caring technique, especially providing enough water to avoid the peel crack or rotten peel causing bad looking to the fruit.

Regarding the lychee area for export, the farmers are encouraged to follow the technical procedure, use bio-product and herbal protection product to prevent the worm and disease. Any kind of prohibited plant protection products or those excluded in the allowed list is absolutely forbidden. The fruits are harvested at least after 15 days since the date of spraying the plant protection product.

All competent departments and agencies have strictly inspected, supervised and instructed the local farmers to apply various caring methods to help lychee well grow and ensure productivity and quality.
