More job opportunities for vocational school students in Bac Giang

(BGO)- “Earning wages at school, getting jobs after graduation” is not very strange for vocational school students. Thanks to their hard-working study, practice and practical experience, students equipped with good skills have many opportunities to apply for high-income positions.

Nguyen Van Thang (born in 1997) in Tuan Dao commune, Son Dong district was one of the excellent students of industrial electronics faculty, course 2016-2019 of Vietnam-Korea Vocational College of Technology. His current work is to program the automation equipment system at an electronic component manufacturer in Bac Ninh province which pays him monthly income of 15 to 16 million VND (639 to 682 USD).

We met Nguyen Duc Hieu (born in 2000) from Dong Son commune, Yen The district at Truong Hai Automobile Company Limited (Bac Giang city) when he was advising the clients about the new product of Truong Hai automobile brand. 

Hieu said, he studied at Yen The Mountainous Vocational School (now Bac Giang Mountainous College) under the “2 in 1” programme (studying academic subjects and vocational training at the same time). Apart from normal classes, Hieu practiced at the workshop every afternoon or weekend. After he graduated, he was recruited to work at Truong Hai Automobile Company Limited with a salary of nearly 8 million VND per month.

According to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the province is home to 51 vocational educational institutions and those registering for vocational training activities. These institutions recruited 28,700 labourers in 2022 including 1,600 college students, 4,600 vocational school students, the rest are basic training and continuing education students. About 90 percent of labour with college and vocation training qualifications are employed  after graduation while that figure is 80 percent for the labour with basic training and continuing education.

The recruiment demand of enterprises is increasing especially the demand for trained labour. Facing this fact, the vocational schools in the province is strengthening cooperation with enterprises to update the development trends of each job sector.

In recent years, the vocational schools have paid attention to reinforcing modern equipment and facilities to keep pace with the business development trends. Particularly, Vietnam-Korea Vocational College of Technology has established 6 centers including 4 centers for human resource development research, vocational skill evaluation, innovation and creativity and continuing training. This College has sent its lecturers and students to learn experience in the Republic of Korea and enterprises in Vietnam with production lines similar to the job sectors the College provides training.

The students of Occupational Education and Continuing Education Center of Hiep Hoa district are in the industrial sewing lesson.

To date, the College has inked cooperation contracts with more than 100 enterprises in Bac Giang and other provinces, most of which are foreign direct investment (FDI) companies. Samsung Electronics Vietnam Company Limited is its traditional partner which has created jobs for over 1,200 students of the college working at technical positions, accounting for about 20 percent of the company’s technicians. Besides, the College provides from 700 to 800 skilled workers each year for FDI companies in the industrial parks.

According to Truong Duc Huan, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Bac Giang province targets for industrial development in coming years. Thus, the employment need will continue to increase especially trained labour in the job sectors with high technical requirements such as mechanics, manufacturing, industrial electronics, engineering, fashion design and automobile technology. 

Apart from the prestigious degrees or certificates, many companies demand for trained labour specializing in a specific sector with strict requirements in professional skills and priority for those with foreign language proficiency.
