Sharing to prolong the life

(BGO) – 20 years ago, the Prime Minister decided to select April 7 as “National Blood Donation Day”. In the northern province of Bac Giang, the voluntary blood donation (VBD) campaign has widely developed and spread for years. 

Donated blood increases year on year

From the delta to mountainous areas, urban to rural areas, the VBD communication has promoted positive results thanks to the core role of the Steering Committee for VBD at all levels, including the Red Cross Society from the provincial to grass root levels as well as the engagement of various organizations and agencies such as youth union, women union, enterprises, military forces...

The Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong, Head of the provincial Steering Board for VBD and representative of National Steering Committee honor the outstanding blood donors.

In the province, the people of all strata donate their blood such as officer, cadre, public servant, students, youth workers, public security and army forces... particularly, more and more farmers in the countrysides of Luc Ngan, Viet Yen, Yen Dung, Lang Giang, Hiep Hoa...have recently donated their precious blood.

Thus, the VBD result in Bac Giang province increases year on year. Typically, in 2015 the province held 50 VBD festivals and received 13,521 blood units, accounting for 140.8 percent of the yearly target.

The high growth rate was well maintained in 2016, 2017 and 2018 in several localities such as Luc Ngan district (receiving 2,752 blood units), Hiep Hoa district (2,405 blood units), Viet Yen district (2,325 blood units), 9 out of 10 districts and city collected over 1,000 blood units per year.

Promoting the achievement, in 2019, the Steering Board for VBD in the province, districts and city coordinated with the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Vietnam German Hospital and provincial General Hospital to launched 41 VBD events, helping receive 10,900 blood units, making up 123 percent of the yearly target assigned the National Steering Committee that means 1.2 percent of the population joined the VBD campaign.

The top leading districts in the province in the VBD campaign included Hiep Hoa (3,283 blood units), Viet Yen (2,514 blood units), Luc Ngan (2,743 blood units) and Son Dong (1,166 blood units).

Every person and every household donate blood

In 2018, the provincial Steering Board for VBD organized the ceremony to honor 755 outstanding collectives, families and individuals. One year later, at the eleventh honoring ceremony, the number increased up to 833.

It is hard to name all the outstanding people at Tien Luc commune (Lang Giang district) such as the Tran Van donate blood 99 times, the Le donate blood 84 times, the Nguyen Van and Nguyen Dinh donate blood 85 times while the Hoang in Phi Dien commune (Luc Ngan district) donate blood 86 times, the Nguyen in Mai village donate blood 56 times...

Besides, many families have donated blood more than 20 times like family of Nguyen Dinh Quyet in Phu Thinh village, Lang Son commune (Yen Dung district) (37 times), family of Do Thi Yen in Than Chuc village, Tien Son commune (Viet Yen district) (22 times)...

In 2018, the list of honored blood individual donors of over 5 times featured 568 persons.

According to Le Thi Duyen, Chairwoman of the provincial Red Cross Society, to gain the result, the Steering Board for VBD at all levels have well conducted the communication tasks to call on the participation from people, especially the humanity of VBD.

The Party, State and local authorities have deep understood the purpose and meaning of the VBD movement then instructed and donated blood at the VBD festival, helping encourage the people to actively respond to the good deed.

Acknowledging the great contribution, annually many collectives and individual in the province are honored and granted certificate of merit by the Ministry of Health, Vietnam Red Cross Society, National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

Bac Giang province ranks in the leading provinces in the northern mountainous areas in the VBD task, especially the districts in the province top the country.
