The Center of Culture and Cinema in Bac Giang province joined hand with the Center
of Culture, Information and Sports of Bac Giang city and Dinh Tri commune to
organize two week course to teach Cheo (traditional opera) and Quan ho (Love
duet) singing to the grass root art talents, which closed recently.
31 trainees of grass root art talents, members of Cheo and Quan ho clubs in the commune, art troop in Secondary School in Dinh Tri commune were instructed by the artists of the provincial Cheo Theatre and lecturers at Bac Giang Vocational School of Culture, Sports and Tourism to perform Quan ho correctly and orderly, the exchange singing of ancient Love duet folk songs as well as several melodies and technique method to perform Cheo also.

Especially, all participants of the course were youth and teenager.
Previously, the Center of Culture, Information and Sports of Bac Giang city coordinated to hold two courses to teach Cheo and Quan ho singing in Dong Son commune and Hoang Van Thu ward.
Each course had 60 trainees which helped them enhance the knowledge about folk arts, receive new folk melodies to actively participate in the cultural and art activities at the grass root level as well as partly preserve and develop the traditional cultural value of the nation.
Ancient ‘quan ho’ (love duet) of Dinh Ca village

village, Quang Minh commune (Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province), many
generations of local people are passionate about singing ‘quan ho’ (love duet)
folk songs. Happily, the village’s ‘quan ho’ club has many members who are old
but still enthusiastic, quietly transmitting the folk songs to young people.
Artisan Hoac Cong Cho whole-heartedly dedicate to ancient Quan ho
(BGO) – The year 2019 marks 10 year
period UNESCO recognized Quan ho (love duet folk singing) as the intangible
cultural heritage of the humanity. For a decade, Bac Giang province has achieved
positive results in preserving and promoting the value of Quan ho. The artisans
or “the living treasures” have dramatic contribution to the general achievement,
including the People’s artisan Hoac Cong Cho.

UNESCO as intangible cultural heritages of humanity, the provincial Department
of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just held a scientific conference on
"Preserving and promoting Quan ho and Ca tru in Bac Giang province”.

On August 22, Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee Le
Anh Duong, Head of the Organization Board for the 10th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Quan
ho (love duet singing) and Ca tru (ceremonial singing) as the intangible culture
heritage of humanity as well as the second ceremony to bestow title of People’s
Artist and Meritorious artist in the field of intangible cultural heritage in
2019 chaired a meeting to finalize the instruction and implementation.
