Lai Gia Thanh pocketed three gold medals in the men’s 55kg in the snatch, clean & jerk and total lift with results of 116kg, 145kg and 261kg. Thanh, 19, was world silver medalist in the 55kg behind Om Yun Chol of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Vuong Thi Huyen dominated in the women’s 45kg category with two gold medals in the clean & jerk and total lift. The gold medal in the snatch went to Khong My Phuong.

In the men’s 61kg, Thach Kim Tuan won silver with a total lift of 295, a bronze in the snatch with 135kg, and a bronze in the clean & jerk with 160kg. The gold medal went to Eko Yuli Irawan of Indonesia.

Vietnam sent 13 athletes to the event which is one of six mandatory tournaments that athletes must take part in to collect points for Tokyo 2020 Olympics berths.
