Vietnam launches green transition project empowering women in five provinces
The Project on Supporting Women-Led Green Initiatives (PWG) was officially launched in Hanoi on April 22, aiming to support women-led efforts in green transition and sustainable development across five provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Bac Lieu.
PWG is a component of the EU-funded “Vietnam Women-Led Green Partnership” programme, implemented by Oxfam in Vietnam.

Over a 54-month period (2024–2029), the project will support 65 initiatives with funding of up to 1.65 billion VND (approximately 60,000 EUR) each, implemented over 12 to 18 months.
According to Oxfam, the project seeks to enhance women’s access to sustainable employment and business opportunities within the green and circular economies.
It also promotes female participation in shaping policies on climate change, disaster risk reduction, and environmental protection.
Vietnam is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, with women and girls disproportionately affected due to limited access to resources, finance, and decision-making processes.
The government has introduced gender-responsive policies in green economic development and climate adaptation while upholding global commitments on gender equality and green growth.
Oxfam’s Deputy Country Director Pham Quang Tu emphasised the need for comprehensive support to equip women with the knowledge and skills required for active participation in the green transition.
The first funding round of PWG focuses on raising awareness, improving green livelihoods, decent employment, and empowering women in policy advocacy. The project aims to indirectly benefit 7 to 10 million people by expanding access to green opportunities.
