Vietnamese cueists compete in Blankenberge World Cup 2019
This is the third World Cup tournament so far this year, following the previous two events in Antalya, Turkey (February) and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (May).
At the Blankenberge World Cup 2019, Tran Quyet Chien will have to defend his first-place finish attained at the Ho Chi Minh City World Cup in May 2018. |
Among the Vietnamese cueists, Tran Quyet Chien (world no. 3), Nguyen Quoc Nguyen (world no. 12) and Ngo Dinh Nai (world no. 14) have earned wild cards to the last 32.
They will have to defend their respective first, second and third-place finishes achieved at the Ho Chi Minh City World Cup in May 2018, equivalent to 80, 54 and 38 world rating points, in order to maintain their current positions in the UMB rankings.
Dinh Nai has been drawn in Group C, together with Cho Jae-ho (Republic of Korea, world no. 8) and Roland Forthomme (Belgium, world no. 24). Quyet Chien joins France’s Jeremy Bury (world no. 10) in Group F, while Quoc Nguyen belongs to Group H with the presence of world no. 5 Eddy Merckx of Belgium.
Ngo Dinh Nai (world no. 14) is the only Vietnamese player to enter the quarterfinals at the Ho Chi Minh City World Cup 2019 last month. |
Meanwhile, Do Nguyen Trung Hau (world no. 41) and Ma Xuan Cuong (world no. 79) had to attend the third qualification round early this morning (June 20), during which they overcame opponents from the Republic of Korea to join other Vietnamese teammates Ma Minh Cam (world no. 21) and Duong Anh Vu (world no. 32) in the last qualification round for the last-32 stage.
A stake of EUR16,000 will be awarded to the overall champion, EUR10,000 for the runner-up, EUR6,000 for the third and fourth-place finishers, and EUR3,500 for the players ranked between fifth and eighth.
