Vo Thi Kim Phung (Bac Giang) bags 1 gold, 1 silver at 2019 ASEAN Chess Championship

(BGO) - The 2019 ASEAN Chess Championship was concluded in Bac Giang Hotel, Bac Giang city on 3 November after 10-day tough competition. The closing ceremony was attended by leaders of ASEAN Chess Confederation, Vietnam Chess Federation, Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Bac Giang province and representatives, coaches and athletes of the delegations. 

At this event, 6 groups of prizes were awarded to the athletes with 18 medals of different types. Vietnamese delegation bagged 14 medals including 4 golds, 4 silvers and 6 bronzes at the 3 events of standard chess, lightning chess and blitz chess.

Especially, Vo Thi Kim Phung (born in 1993), a chess player of Bac Giang province, Vietnam excellently won gold medal at women’s standard chess and silver medal at women’s blitz chess category. Particularly, Vo Thi Kim Phung won 6 games and drew 3 games at standard chess while winning 6 games, drew 2 games and lost only 1 game at women’s blitz chess.

The 2019 ASEAN Chess Championship drew participation of more than 60 outstanding officers, coaches and athletes from 5 countries in the Southeast Asia including Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The athletes competed at 3 categories including standard chess, lightning chess and blitz chess. 6 athletes of Bac Giang joined the Vietnamese team to compete at this competition.
