Wounded soldier with kind heart

(BGO) – The wounded soldier Luu Van Toat is a member of the Tien Giang War Veteran Division in Hoang Van Thu ward (Bac Giang city) who gain the heart and respect of the local residents for his devotion to community and collective movements. 

Veteran Luu Van Toat was born in 1954 in Hung Yen province. In 1972, he voluntarily joined the army and went to the Southern battlefield. After many fierce battles, Toat was wounded with 35 percent of health impact. When the peace was settled, he returned to the normal life, got married with 5 children and moved to live in Bac Giang province.

Toat focused on developing the family business and gradually building a store to repair and distribute the bicycle and electronic motorbike. Besides, he has actively participated in the local movements since 1996. The residents trust and elect him as Head of the residential group, Vice Head of the War Veteran Division and currently Head of the Elderly Division and Division of Agent Orange Victims.

At any role, he always completes the assigned works. He has been bestowed with many insignias, commendation by the public security force for the contribution to drug crime prevention and protection of national security as well as the certificate of merit by the sectors for his excellent achievement in patriotism emulative movements.

The sick soldier Luu Van Toat also actively joins hand in charity. For dozens of years, he has donated to the “Fund for the Poor” in the residential group and coordinated to organize the programme to present the bicycle, electric motorbike or helmet to the poor students or those living in difficult circumstances in the local schools with the average value of 40 – 60 million VND (1,700 – 2,500 USD) per school on a yearly basis.

Toat shared: “Personally, I have gone through numerous difficulties so I deeply understand the circumstance of poor households. I always want to share with everyone and contribute a little bit to the local movement though I am not rich”.
