Bac Giang actively renovates market approach in 2023 lychee season
To prepare for this year season, in mid-April, the People’s Committee in Luc Ngan district established delegation to work with Southern localities and organizations about lychee sale at wholesale markets and border gates. Luc Ngan district authority finalized and inked memorandum of understanding with the localities and agencies about linkage for selling lychee.

Accordingly, Thu Duc Farm Produce Market Management and Business Joint Stock Company in Ho Chi Minh city will prioritize specific area to promote and sell Luc Ngan lychee.
Similarly, the People’s Committee in Thong Nhat district and Managent Board of Dau Giay Food and Farm Produce Whole Sale Market in Thong Nhat district (Dong Nai province) committed to give best support to lychee sellers.
With total area of 29,700 hectares (up nearly 1,400 hectares compared to 2022), this year Bac Giang province expects to harvest about 180,000 tonnes of lychee, including 98,000 tonnes from Luc Ngan district, 17,000 tonnes from Tan Yen district.
Right from early season, local authority has actively connected to find market. With 680 hectares of early ripening lychee, Phuc Hoa commune (Tan Yen district) yields about 9,000 tonnes of fruit. To expand export market, the whole lychee area was granted with growing area code (GAC), including 11 GAC for Chinese market (600 hectares), 3 for Japan (25 hectares) and others for Australia, the US and Thailand.
To improve the product quality and value, local professional staff regularly assist lychee growers about caring technique to ensure food hygiene and safety. Before the harvest time, the communal People’s Committee arranged 10 parking lots and turnabouts as well as invested 760 million VND (32,400 USD) to expand the road at Global GAP lychee growing areas in Quat Du 2 and Lan Thinh villages.
Especially, a good signal came to lychee growers in the commune when Hanoi based BEIN Joint Stock Company inked to bring 180 tonnes of early ripening lychee to Japan.
Thanks to the investment and application of intensive farming techniques, the province has had high lychee productivity, particularly highest ever quantity of over 215,800 tonnes in 2021.
In the "capital" of Luc Ngan lychee, since March, the locality has actively guided and supported enterprises and cooperatives to link and invite Chinese traders. Up to now, 110 Chinese traders have registered to buy lychee in the area.
Exploiting the advantage when Kep station becomes an international intermodal station, the district People's Committee has held many working sessions with the Railway Transport and Trade Joint Stock Company to discuss the lychee transport plan. At a recent meeting, the company confirmed that they have completed the infrastructure and conditions to meet the needs of transporting agricultural products for export.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry, this year Covid-19 disease is well controlled. All activities enter new normal state. The import and export activities to China and other countries are open so the export volume is forecast to increase.

A new feature in lychee promotion and consumption this year is that the provincial People's Committee assigned localities to directly organize trade promotion event to advertise and introduce the product.
Accordingly, the People's Committee in Tan Yen district will chair a conference to promote the sale of early ripening lychee; Luc Ngan district will hold direct and online lychee promotion conference as well as a departing ceremony to export Luc Ngan lychee to the Southern and Chinese markets. The Department of Industry and Trade also launches various events to promote, introduce and consume the fruit.
A notable highlight is Bac Giang's registration of a topic to promote lychee consumption in the domestic market, Chinese market and other countries in the world at the meeting between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnamese Trade Office system in foreign countries. This is an opportunity to promote and introduce products to countries around the world. At the same time, Bac Giang first ever organizes the agricultural product promotion at the China - Vietnam goods fair to be held in Pingxiang town, Guangxi (China).
