Bac Giang attracts visitors by signature tourism products
Initial efforts
After nearly 4 years implementing the Resolution No.44 issued by the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee as well as the programmes and plans of the provincial People’s Committee (PPC) about developing the tourism in Bac Giang province in the period 2016 – 2020, the local tourism has gained dramatic achievements.

The tourism areas and sites have gradually created tourism products and attracted visitors such as Vinh Nghiem pagoda, Truc Lam Phuong Hoang Zen Monastery, golf course (Yen Dung district); Bo Da pagoda (Viet Yen district); Suoi Mo Ecotourism Complex (Luc Nam district) and Tay Yen Tu Spiritual – Ecotourism Complex (Son Dong district) among others.
According to Vice Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DoCST) Tran Van Dung, though it is still at the first development phase, more and more visitors have come to Bac Giang. Particularly, over 2 million tourist arrivals flocked to the province in 2019, making up 33 percent year on year increase.
The recent achievements in tourism development have been remarkable at the localities, proving for the great effort and determination to realize the purpose of making the non-smoke industry a key economic sector with high ratio among the provincial economic structure.
However, Bac Giang still has few signature tourism products to attract the visitors. Most of the tourist to the province enjoyed one day tour on the spring occasion while only small number stayed to next day. The statistic showed that the tourism revenue reached over 760 billion VND (32.8 million USD), accounting for 76 percent of yearly target in 2019.
The main reason was because only small investment was poured to tourism sector, the entertainment, experiment facilities and resort at the tourism complex and site were not really interesting to draw the visitors, the accommodation cannot meet the demand...
Creating unique feature
The Resolution No.44 also defined the significant task to develop Tay Yen Tu into the key tourism complex in the province; expand the space, restore the landscape and promote the value of Vinh Nghiem pagoda so as to make the tours to Vinh Nghiem pagoda and Tay Yen Tu complex typical products for cultural – spiritual tourism form.

Phung Quang Thang, Permanent Vice Chairman of Vietnam Tourism Association considered that the restoration of the relic sites will create the difference, establish the tours and routes in the spiritual journey at Tay Yen Tu side. Thus, it is necessary to survey, research, assess and ask for the thorough consultation from the experts in planning, restoring and reenacting the relic sites together with developing the economy, culture and society.
Apart from the available product, Bac Giang can create new signature tourism products such as orchard tour in Luc Ngan district (because it has biggest area of fruit cultivation in the North with nearly 28,000 hectares) in close connection to ecotourism in Khuon Than lake, Cam Son lake or craft village tour to make noodle, cake or experience “green tourism” at community based tourism village, ecological landscapes ...in several districts of Yen The, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam and Son Dong.
To create attractive tourism products, the provincial authority has paid special attention to draw many capable investors, well implement the site work, enhance the promotion, build and link the tours and routes in and outside the province.
Recently, the PPC has assigned the DoCST to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, People’s Committees in Luc Nam and Son Dong district to survey the tour “The journey of Masters of Yen Tu Truc Lam Zen Sect”. Basing on that, the tourism experts will have assessment and consult on relic restoration to draw more visitors.
The investors have considered to create signature and unique products in Tay Yen Tu Spiritual – Ecotourism Complex (Son Dong district). In 2020, they will start the construction of Buddhism park, ecological lake, flower valley and resorts to meet the visitors’ demands.
Additionally, the People’s Committee in Yen Dung district hired consultant to make the General Plan to preserve and promote the value of special national relic Vinh Nghiem pagoda which is now under the consideration of the Governmental Prime Minister and expected to be approved on a total area of 40 hectares by May 2020.
Hopefully, Bac Giang will have more signature tourism products then widely promote them to domestic and foreign visitors, hence creating the highlight to draw more tourist arrivals and drive the provincial socio-economic growth.
