Bac Giang avoids negligence in on-site medical quarantine

Updated: 08:50, 19/03/2020
(BGO) - Currently, Bac Giang province has nearly 800 people under on-site medical quarantine. This is one of the important measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, if the quarantine is not conducted thoroughly and strictly, it will cause unpredictable consequences.

Voluntary compliance

C.H.Đ, residing in Tran Nguyen Han ward (Bac Giang city), was identified as the F4 of patient No. 17 in Hanoi. On March 12, 2020, when the People's Committee of Tran Nguyen Han ward decided to quarantine D at home, he seriously complied with the request.

Every day, the ward’s medical staff came to his house twice (morning and afternoon) to check his body temperature and grasp his health situation. Despite being considered a low-risk case of COVID-19 infection, D has always strictly followed at-home quarantine measures to ensure the health and safety of himself, his relatives and the community.

By March 17, Bac Giang city had more than 80 cases subject to quarantine at home, scattered in such wards as Hoang Van Thu, Ngo Quyen, Tran Nguyen Han and Le Loi.

Trieu Thi Nhung, Deputy Director of the municipal Health Center, said that in addition to being monitored by the commune and ward health workers, within 14 days, the families with members quarantined are disinfected 3-4 times. At the moment, the health of the quarantined people is good.

In Viet Yen district, there are currently 20 people quarantined on-site, mainly in Bich Dong town and Van Ha commune, of whom two are quarantined at a hotel.

As of March 17, the whole province had nearly 800 people put under on-site quarantine (mostly at home). On-site medical quarantine applies to people who have indirect contact (F3, F4) with COVID-19 patients. The quarantine period is set to be 14 days from the time of contact with a suspected source of infection.

Strengthening supervision

While in concentrated quarantine areas, the activities of those quarantined are carried out in a closed manner under round-the-clock management and supervision of the medical, army and police forces, quarantine at home or in place of residence depends much on the self-awareness of each person.

According to the people's reports, in fact in many places in the province, many people quarantined at home or hotel were not fully aware of the nature and severity of the disease so they did not comply with the regulations, such as not wearing a mask regularly as well as still going out to buy and sell goods, eat, drink and solve personal matters.

Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Health, said that the department has sent a written document requesting health facilities to coordinate with local authorities to thoroughly grasp and strictly follow the guidance of the Ministry of Health on quarantine at home and in place of residence. To make on-site quarantine safe and effective, it is important that each person's awareness of self-prevention needs to be improved.

The steering committees for COVID-19 prevention and control at all levels, especially at grassroots level, should continue to do well the popularisation work so that quarantined people will strictly follow the guidance of the Ministry of Health at home and in their places of residence during the quarantine period.

At the same time, local authorities and relevant agencies need to enhance management and promote the supervisory role of the communities where there are quarantined cases. Family members and health workers should regularly encourage and help quarantined people during the health monitoring process.
