Bac Giang completes geographic indication registration for Tan Yen early ripe lychee
The event was co-hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DoST), Tan Yen district People’s Committee and Vietnam Intelligence for Study, Application and Science Technology Management Company Limited (Vinaintech) as one of components in the project “Registering to protect, manage and develop geographic indication (GI) for Tan Yen early ripe lychee of Bac Giang province” chaired by Doctor Vuong Thi Thanh Tri, Director of Vinaintech.

Representatives of businesses, cooperatives and farmers visited lychee growing areas, directly observed, weighted and tasted the early ripe lychees of Tan Yen, Phu Cu (Hung Yen) and Dong Trieu (Quang Ninh). All gave initial assessment that Tan Yen early ripe lychee has good looking and high quality.
Doctor Vuong Thi Thanh Tri said GI is useful tool to improve advantage of Vietnam farm produce on international market. It is a way to distinguish product origin from a certain region and locality. The fruit shape, weight, flavor, color, flesh…help assess and distinguish Tan Yen early ripe lychee from the fruit in other provinces.
The seminar result was the base for the Project chairwoman, company, DoST and local authority to complete contents then submit to authority to recognize Tan Yen early ripe lychee as qualification, hence completing GI registration for the product.

To improve the quality of dried lychee, the DoST has approved the scientific and technology task at grass roots level to implement the project “Applying advanced technique to build lychee drying model from intermediate heat of boiler” in 2022.
It will be implemented by Luc Ngan Farm Produce Processing, Import and Export Joint Stock Company (Company) with total cost of 100 million VND.
Accordingly, from now on till the end of November 2022, the Company plans to assess the local lychee drying situation to build lychee drying model from intermediate heat of boiler with capacity of 3.5 tonnes of fresh fruit per batch.
Implementing the model, the Company has analyzed criteria of dried fruit quality such as moisture and microorganism then completed technical procedure that suits to local condition.
The task execution will help create new technology in processing and consuming lychee, especially amid many difficulties in exporting fresh fruit.
