Bac Giang exports first batch of lychees to Germany

Updated: 16:25, 06/06/2024

BAC GIANG - Vifoco Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Vifoco) (Bac Giang City) has just successfully exported 3.5 tonnes of fresh early ripening lychees from Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province) to the Federal Republic of Germany as the first batch of local lychees shipped to the market in this season.

This batch of lychees was harvested by Vifoco in the concentrated lychee growing area in Quat Du 2 village of Phuc Hoa commune (Tan Yen district) which has a growing area code and follows a safe process under production linkage.

Lychees are preliminarily processed and packaged before being exported to Germany.

Nguyen Xuan Viet, Director of Vifoco said that all of the stems are removed then the lychees are pre-processed, canned and exported by air. During this season, Vifoco signed a contract to export 70 tonnes of lychees to Germany and 30 tonnes to Thailand.

To proactively source raw materials for export, the enterprise signed a memorandum of cooperation with Phuc Hoa Commune People's Committee to organize production for 5 years.

Germany is a choosy but very potential market. The first batch of lychees from Tan Yen and the province exported to this country in this season helps open up export opportunities to the European market.

Lychees are transported by air so when they arrive at the German market they are still fresh.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, by the end of June 5, the whole province consumed about 30,000 tonnes of early ripening lychees, of which, Tan Yen district sold more than 14,000 tonnes out of a total of 15,200 tonnes of local fruits.

More than 13,000 tonnes of lychees have been exported, mostly to China with total productivity of over 12,000 tonnes. The popular selling price at lychee purchasing points in the province ranges from 35-65,000 VND (1.48 – 2.76 USD) per kg, the highest ever, depending on the quality of the lychee.
