Bac Giang lychee enjoys smooth export to Japan

Hoang Ngoc Thanh in Lam 3 village, Nam Duong commune has recently sold over 2 tonnes of lychee to Chanh Thu Fruit Import Export Company Limited to export to Japan.

Happily, he shared: “To meet the Japanese requirement, the lychee must be produced under GlobalGAP and strictly harvested in regulated time to avoid the direct sunlight causing impact on the fruits’ quality and appearance”.
Since early this year, the People’s Committee in Luc Ngan district had introduced the competent agencies and businesses to survey and granted the growing area code (GAC) then inked the contract of production and consumption for export to Japan.
Thanh’s family now has 350 lychee trees which were grown 25 years ago. Thanks to the correct caring technique and long cultivation experience, his lychee orchard is laden with qualified fruits which totally yielded some 10 tonnes of fruits.
Apart from the lychee supplied under contract with the enterprise to export to Japan, Thanh actively sold the fruit to other traders to consume domestically and export to China with average price of 23,000 VND (1 USD) per kg.

Similarly, family of Luc Van Bich in Na Hem village, Ho Dap commune has sold over 3 tonnes of lychee to Rong Do Trade and Service Co.,Ltd to export to Japan. He is one of 4 households in the village who were provided with the GAC and instruction to cultivate the lychee under GlobalGAP in total area of over 4 ha by the competent agencies.
Strict cooperation
Due to the impact of Covid-19 pandemic, the Party, authority and competent at all level paid special attention to instructing the lychee production and consumption in Bac Giang province in general and Luc Ngan district in particular.
Focusing on exporting lychee to Japan is the new feature in lychee consumption season 2020 in Luc Ngan district. Though it is a new and demanding market, it has a lot of potentials to increase the export value of the local specialty.
According to Head of the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development in Luc Ngan district (Division) Tang Van Huy, to ensure the product quality, the Division strictly coordinated with the Plan Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) to grant GAC to 64 households in 50 ha in several communes of Hong Giang, Quy Son, Giap Son, Tan Son...
However, the unfavourable weather condition this year caused low flowering rate in the main lychee season, including many orchards with GAC in these above mentioned localities.

The Division timely collaborated with the Department of Plan Production and Protection in Bac Giang province to review and grant additional GAC to 35 households having high flowering orchards in 48 ha in Nam Duong, Tan Son, Ho Dap and Quy Son communes, helping increase the total area with GAC up to 98 ha in 99 households.
As of June 29, 2020, the district consumed nearly 80,000 tonnes of lychee easily with high price; particularly 53 tonnes of lychee grown in the localities with GAC for export to Japan were sold to Ameii Vietnam JSC, Chanh Thu Fruit Import Export Co.,LTd and Rong Do Trade and Service Co.,Ltd.
In the upcoming time, these businesses will continue buying the lychee of the households granted with GAC to export to Japan, helping open new chance for Bac Giang lychee.
