The early season lychees are not as beautiful and sweet as the main season lychees. However, first grade fruits are always sold out.

Owner of Son Huong fruit store on Quang Trung Street (Bac Giang City) said: "Many families want to buy this fruit as the offering to ancestor on the first day of the fourth lunar month. After knowing that some gardens in Luc Ngan have ripen lychees so I ordered them to sell. Today, I imported 2 shipments with nearly 100 kg".

The fruits were neatly bunded with the weight of 1.5-2 kg. Even though the price is high, there are still many buyers. By 5 p.m., the store only had about a dozen kg of lychees.

With highest ever selling price of 100,000 VND per kg, the extremely early ripening lychee is one of the most expensive fruits on the Bac Giang market. In previous years, the local special fruit was sold at around 30,000 – 40,000 VND per kg at the beginning of the season.

The main reason was due to unfavorable weather condition this year causing low fruit bearing rate as well as small cultivation area of the extremely early ripening lychees.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the expected lychee harvest time is from May 20 to July 30, with early lychee from May 20 to June 15, main lychee from June 10 onwards.

The extremely early ripening lychee on the market at this time is scarce so the selling price is high. In the coming days, when lychee growing areas in the province enter harvest season, the selling price will be lower.

Luc Ngan promotes lychee consumption associated with summer tourism program
