Bringing clean water to rural areas

Updated: 15:02, 04/01/2019
(BGO) - Many rural people have to live with running water polluted for a long time without alternative water sources. Grasping that demand, some businesses have invested in infrastructure works to bring clean water to rural residents, gradually improving the proportion of people using clean water in Bac Giang province.

For many years, people in Brick Factory area, Phuc Man village, Xuan Huong commune (Lang Giang district) have had to use rainwater for daily activities because the groundwater is heavily contaminated with iron. In the family of Ha Van Chien, dozens of yellow streaks like cucuma have remained for a long time from the top to the foot of the water container.

Chien said: “I used activated carbon and sand to filter water but the situation did not improve much, so I only use well water to wash breeding facilities. We do not dare to wash light colored clothes with this water because they will become smeared”.

According to Chien, the households in the area use rainwater which is cleaned via a specialized filter machine to cook so the water source is quite limited and must be used thrifty. Similarly, water sources in Long Tri 1 and Long Tri 2 residential areas of Tan Dan township (Yen Dung district) are also contaminated with iron and limestone for many years. Local residents have proposed to be provided with clean water but the locality has not had conditions to install water supply systems.

Conducting a field survey to grasp the needs of the people, in late November 2018, the Bac Giang Clean Water Joint Stock Company worked with the authorities and people of Xuan Huong commune (Lang Giang district). They agreed to prioritize the installation of water supply pipes in the area in the most urgent need of clean water, Phuc Man village.

Up to now, the main and auxiliary pipelines have been completed and people have paid reciprocal money to install the clocks. In this Lunar New Year, more than 100 households in the village will have clean water for use.

Meeting the desire of the people, these days, despite cold weather, the technical team responsible for expanding water supply pipeline system in Tan Dan township have often been present at the construction site to install the pipelines along the roads leading to the households.

Ngo Binh Khai, head of the construction team No. 1 of the company, said: “As the Lunar New Year is coming soon, we maintain 20 workers to make the most of the time to complete the work. More than 5km of the pipeline has been located in Long Tri 1 and Long Tri 2 residential areas with about 300 households, fulfilling more than 60 percent of the plan”.

In addition to the above areas, some villages such as Dao and Nguyen in Tan An commune; Can in Huong Gian commune (Yen Dung district) will also use clean water during the Lunar New Year this year. This brings joy to the people. Duong Thi Minh Sang in Long Tri 2 residential area, Tan Dan township said excitedly: "This year I am 70 years old. I could not think that clean water would be brought to each corner like this. My family has paid reciprocal money, waiting to use clean water instead of the previous water source contaminated with iron and limestone”.

In order to ensure water supply and expand water supply to rural areas, the Bac Giang Clean Water Joint Stock Company buys more than 10,000 cu.m of water per day and night from the DNP-Bac Giang Water Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, raising its total capacity to over 35,000 cu.m per day and night.

Huong Xuan Cong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bac Giang Clean Water Joint Stock Company, informed that: “In the coming time, the unit will continue to invest in water supply in some villages of Tan Dinh and Thai Dao communes (Lang Giang district), and several other surrounding areas. To achieve this goal, we have negotiated for double water volume bought from DNP-Bac Giang, and installed modern equipment in water treatment and supply to save manpower and production costs.”

Along with the Bac Giang Clean Water Joint Stock Company, some other businesses are also actively investing in rural water supply such as Ha Bac Construction and Water Supply One Member Limited Company; Nam Son Trading and Construction Joint Stock Company; and Water Supply and Urban Environment Joint Stock Company 206.

Water sources play an important role in life. Statistics of the Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), by the end of 2018, the province had more than 70 percent of rural residents using clean water under Standard 02/2009/BYT of the Ministry of Health. It is a high rate compared to the average level of the whole country thanks to local efforts to attract social investment and encourage businesses to expand the water supply area. This step by step helps people across the province use safe water sources, thus improving their quality of life.
