“In line with selling the products, our garden is chosen as a tourist destination, thus we do not harvest all of the products at the same time. Sweet pomelo is sold at from 20,000 to 25,000 VND (0.9 to 1.1 USD) per each fruit while price of green-skin pomelo ranges from 30,000 to 40,000 VND (1.3 to 1.7 USD) per kilo. All of other trees were ordered to sell ahead Tet. Our family is expected to earn about 1 billion (43,478 USD) from this crop”, said En.
Similarly, other orange and pomelo growers in Luc Ngan are happy to harvest a bumper crop with good prices. Apart from the people’s creative methods to take photos and promote their gardens on social networks, they have received effective support from related ministries, agencies and local government.
The success of lychee crop set a base for smooth consumption of other farm products such as 20,000 tonnes of pineapple, 18,000 tonnes of watermelon and 25,000 tonnes of vegetable while orange, pomelo, off-season custard apple, pork, chicken and other key and signature farm products have been favourably consumed at higher prices than the same products of other localities, yielding high income for local people. |
The province also saw an impressive lychee season in 2021. Despite difficult circumstance, the province had a lychee crop with many records, particularly the biggest consumption volume ever with 215,850 tonnes, highest revenue from lychee and supporting services reaching some 6.820 trillion VND (296.5 million USD) (equal to the highest revenue before the pandemic), the shortest harvest time, the widest market in both scale and export volume.
Lychee was exported to some European countries such as Germany, France, Belgium and Netherland, Japan and Southeastern countries with highest volume so far, tenfold higher than the year with highest export volume.
Flexible and effective
“When the whole province strained to fight against the pandemic, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee ordered the whole political system to involve with highest responsibility in fighting the pandemic while implementing flexible and synchronous solutions for economic development, which contributed to a successful crop in a special context”, Tran Quang Tan, Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade told about the lychee crop.
At that time, Bac Giang province requested the Government to create “green lane” for circulation of lychee. In addition, the provincial People’s Committee renewed the consumption promotion methods applied in large and in-depth scales with both direct consumption and online trading. Particularly, the province promoted consumption of lychee through traditional trading channels and boosted consumption on internet via social networks like facebook, zalo, fanpages and big e-commerce platforms in Vietnam and other countries.

It was the first time the province established the supporting teams for lychee consumption in Lao Cai and Lang Son provinces and hotlines to timely remove obstacles and support for fast custom clearance of lychee.
The mentioned solutions showed proactiveness and careful plans for arising situations; thus, the 2021 lychee crop received attention of the whole country to rapidly open up domestic market for fresh lychee.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the success of lychee crop set a base for smooth consumption of other farm products such as 20,000 tonnes of pineapple, 18,000 tonnes of watermelon and 25,000 tonnes of vegetable while orange, pomelo, off-season custard apple, pork, chicken and other key and signature farm products have been favourably consumed at higher prices than the same products of other localities, yielding high income for local people.
In his speech at a meeting in Bac Giang province, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said, the “talking” figures of the consumption volume of lychee and many other farm products affirm Bac Giang is a highlight in consumption of agricultural products nationwide amid complicated developments of Covid-19 pandemic. This result has been gained thanks to creative and drastic methods of the locality.
Bac Giang has many advantages in agricultural cultivation with year-round sweet fruits. Besides, its livestock number is in top nationwide. In order to promote the comparative advantages of the locality in line with the gained results, the province will continue fostering innovation and creativity in consumption of farm produce in coming time to gradually bring the products into new markets helping farmers harvest sweet achievements from agriculture.
