The appointment was announced at a conference on June 26 under the chair of General Luong Cuong, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat.

Gau was also assigned to join the Party Committee of Military Region 1 for 2020-2025.

Speaking at the conference, Cuong congratulated Gau on being appointed by the Politburo to join the provincial Party Committee and its Standing Board, and hold the position of the provincial Party Committee’s Secretary for the 2020-2025 term.

Cuong affirmed that Lieutenant General Gau is a capable and experienced official with sharp thinking, scientific working methods, and a simple and healthy lifestyle. He has been well-trained, grown up from the grassroots levels, and held many positions.

Regardless of his position, Gau has always strived to complete all assigned tasks excellently, making many contributions to units and localities, he added.

Cuong believed that the Bac Giang provincial Party Committee will continue to promote achievements and overcome difficulties and limitations to promote socio-economic development, deserving the people's trust.

For his part, Gau thanked the leaders at all levels for entrusting him to be the Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Giang - a province with a strategic location in the Military Region 1 and the northern midlands and mountainous region. The locality is in a period of breakthrough and strong development.

The new Secretary of the provincial Party Committee shared that the assigned task is a great honour but a heavy responsibility with the trust and expectations of the Party and State leaders, the Party Central Committee’s Politburo and the Secretariat, as well as the Party Organisation, administration and more than 1.9 million people in Bac Giang.

He said he will make great efforts, constantly learn from others’ experience, and be dedicated and devoted; firmly consolidate solidarity and unity in the provincial Party Committee and its Standing Board, thus promoting the strength of great solidarity of all people. He is determined to build Bac Giang into prosperous and strong province.

Gau was born in 1967 in Tan Thuy commune, Ba Tri district, the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre. He holds a high-level political theory degree and a bachelor degree in social sciences and humanities.
