Over 2,000 tonnes of early maturing lychee exported through Lao Cai border gate

More than 2,000 tonnes of this year’s early ripening lychee crops have been exported to China through Kim Thanh Border Gate in Lao Cai province, announced the Customs Branch at Lao Cai International Border Gate on May 25.

Despite the hot weather, about 20 trucks carrying fresh lychee have been cleared daily to ship the fruit to China during the past week.

The early maturing lychees are mainly grown in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces and are refrigerated in foam boxes to be transported to northern border gates.

Lao Cai Customs officials carry out customs clearance procedures for fresh lychee.

The volume of lychee exported to China is expected to increase in the coming days as lychee enters its main season.

Before the lychee season, Lao Cai agencies had plans to raise the clearance capacity at border gates to ensure the freshness of the fruit.

“All shipments of fresh lychee arriving at the border gate are given priority to be cleared before other types of goods,” said the Deputy Director of the Customs Branch at Lao Cai International Border Gate Pham Van Phuc.
