“Barefoot” female athlete

It is the popular name for Nguyen Thi Lan (born in 1972) - an amateur runner at residential area No.8 of Tran Nguyen Han ward (Bac Giang city). Lan is now chief of the residential area and works at a courier agent in the city.

When she studied at primary school, Lan really loved running. Because her house was next to the pitch of Bac Giang Technical and Industrial College, every day the little girl woke up early to run for physical practice.

Later on, she actively joined several running tournaments of Bac Giang city and gained high results. She was selected to compete at Bac Giang Newspaper Run. At different seasons, Lan participated in the distance of 3km at women’s champion category and normally ranked in top five best runners.

Moreover, she have competed at many marathon tournaments launched by other organizations, provinces and cities and achieved many gold and silver medals. For recent 10 years, she has attended from 5 to 7 domestic sport events per year. Now, she is member of 98 Runners Club with over 300 other members.

20 years on the running track

Ha Van Duoc (born in 1982) in village No.5 of An Ha commune, Lang Giang district firstly attended Bac Giang Newspaper Run in 2003. Though the farmer is busy at working on over 1.7 mau of field (old measuring unit, each equal to 3,600 square meters), raising poultry and castle, he actively participates in running events in the province and district.

When Duoc was at secondary school, he used to win many high prizes at district level tourneys. The local movement event offered him chance to join Bac Giang Newspaper Run. For 20 consecutive years on the running track, he has bagged many First, Second and Third prizes at 6km distance of men’s champion.

To maintain good physical strength and firm competition, Duoc regularly runs 15km, walks 5km per day and consults lecture supplied by experience track and field coaches as well as reference document on Internet relating to running technique.

At the Bac Giang provincial Sports Games held in September 2022, he excellently won gold medal at 1,500m distance. He also pocketed a gold at Bac Giang Newspaper Run 2022 at the distance of 6km in men’s team content together with high achievements at different tourneys like second prize at Marathon Ha Long (21 km), third prize at Marathon Hai Phong (10km) among others. This year he expects to attend 10 running events launched by provinces and cities nationwide.

Young age with lots of prizes

Though Nguyen Manh Khoi in Ngoai Ha residential area of Cao Thuong town in Tan Yen district is 21 years old, he has participated in Bac Giang Newspaper Run for 12 consecutive years.

Now, he is student at Hanoi Military Industrial College. The amateur runner claimed proud achievements when running at various tracks in 12 years. In highschool years, he bagged 1 first prize and 4 secon prizes at 1,500 and 800 meter run at Bac Giang provincial Phu Dong Sports festival launched by the Department of Education and Training. Then Khoi was selected to compete at national Phu Dong sports festival.

With his prominent talent, the student becomes regular members and wins high results at the militia and self-defense sports festival at the district, provincial and Military Region 1 levels with intergrated contents.

Since 2018, Khoi has competed at the distance of 6km of men’s champion category at Bac Giang Newspaper Run and entered the list of top 10 best athletes. Also, he took part in different marathon events such as “Conquering the legend Non Vua peak”, VP Bank marathon themed “Running to the Holy Mountain” launched by Yen Dung district People’s Committee and provincial Youth Union.
