From that resource, more than 300 unity houses have been built and 28,500 Tet gifts have been presented while unexpected assistance and scholarships have been given to thousands of people having accidents or sickness, and homeless children...
Besides this fund, the district has also assigned communes, townships, professional agencies and mass organizations to call on youth union members and their members to donate workdays for construction of houses; persuaded philanthropists to support building materials, equipment and household appliances. Priority has been given to the elderly, single women, orphans, people with disabilities and victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin.
Also using money from the fund, since the 2013-2014 school year, Lang Giang has presented nearly 10,000 sets of textbooks for poor and disadvantaged students throughout the district.
Spreading human value
Launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in 2000, the annual Peak Month for the Poor has always received the attention and direction of the Party Committees and authorities at all levels, thus attracting the engagement of agencies, units, businesses and people of all strata across the province, as well as Bac Giang people living outside the province and abroad. This has helped reduce the province’s poverty rate.
According to the provincial Fatherland Front Committee, by November 15, the Funds for the Poor at all levels have received nearly 5 billion VND (216,150 USD). Some units, businesses and localities with high levels of support are Bac Giang city, Lang Giang and Viet Yen districts; Bac Giang Garment Corporation, Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Chemicals Company Limited, and Ha Bac Export Garment Joint Stock Company... |
With the goal of "Leaving no one behind", this year's peak month, the province planned to raise 50 billion VND (2.16 million USD) for the Fund for the Poor in 2019 and the social security programme in 2020, up 5 billion VND from the previous year.
In order to fulfill the plan, over the past time, agencies and localities have exerted efforts to mobilize many resources. For example, in Viet Yen district, popularization work has been carried out regularly. The Standing Board of the district Fatherland Front Committee has sent an open letter to businesses based in the area, calling them to respond to the campaign.
The Fatherland Front member organizations have also developed specific and practical fund-raising plans. The provincial Federation of Labor has called for the building of "Trade Union Shelters" and the offering of car tickets to poor workers to go home for Tet (Lunar New Year); the provincial Women's Union has effectively maintained green savings funds and entrusted loans to help its members...
Tran Cong Thang, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee, President of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee said that the Fatherland Front committees at all levels in the province will continue to coordinate with the member organizations to popularize the meaning of the Action Month for the Poor, thus attracting the attention and contribution of agencies at all levels, sectors, businesses and people, striving for this year’s support greater than that of the previous year. At the same time, the Fatherland Front committees at all levels are directed to improve the management and use of the fund.
Preliminary results compiled by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs after reviewing poor and near-poor households in 2019 showed that the whole province has more than 23,200 poor households, accounting for 5.05 percent. As a mountainous province, Bac Giang still has many difficult cases that need help so each collective and individual, by practical actions, should help the poor and multiply good deeds, thereby spreading the movement in the community.
