Successful application of advanced fungi culturing techniques

Updated: 17:48, 23/07/2019
(BGO) - The provincial Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has taken over the project “Applying advanced science and technology in edible and medicinal mushroom production  to enhance productivity and quality while developing trade brand for mushrooms in Bac Giang province” chaired by the Center for Mushroom Research and Development (Agricultural Genetics Institute).

After 2 years, the project has established the liquid fungus culturing model with capacity of 80 to 100 litres per batch at a annual scale of 2,000 litres of breeds while the quality of fungus seedlings increases with the low infection rate of below 5 percent.

Tien Tien Cooperative in Lang Giang invests in producing commodity mushroom in refrigerating house.

The culturing model of commercial mushrooms (tricholoma mushroom and wood ear fungus) uses 80 tonnes of materials while ironwood production uses 100 tonnes of materials.

This projects applied the breeding method in liquid culture. This is a new method with many outstanding advantages reducing breeding period by 10 to 15 days and the coefficient of inbreeding increases by 7 to 10 times while minimising the infection rate.

The breeding age is equal with stable quality. The productivity grows by from 5 to 10 percent compared to the traditional breeding method while the production cost is low. Especially, this type of culturing method will bear a large amount of mycelia biomass to produce grade-1 and grade-2 seedlings and commercial seedlings as well.
