Two outstanding locomotives of Bac Giang cooperatives
“Mrs Huong of clean noodles”
For many years, the Trai Lam Thuan Huong Chu Noodle Production and Trading Cooperative in Nam Duong commune, Luc Ngan district has been famous for its clean noodles, recognized as an outstanding national rural industrial product in 2021. The person with the greatest contributions to the cooperative is Director Dao Thi Huong. Huong was born 1979 in Chu township, Luc Ngan district.

In 1997, she got married to a man in Trai Lam village, Nam Duong commune. At that time, their life was difficult. She sold goods in the market and raised livestock, but her income was not much. She told her husband to switch to making noodles to both preserve the local traditional craft and develop the economy.
However, work was not simple in the early days. Because there were no machines, she had to rely on others to make flour, and production was sometimes slow. In 2011, her family converted three ‘sao’ (1,080sq.m) of lychee into a noodle drying area and borrowed money to buy equipment.
With work gradually going smoothly, in 2014, she decided to establish the Trai Lam Thuan Huong Chu Noodle Production and Trading Cooperative. In 2017, she was supported by an acquaintance to change the packaging from plastic bags to high-quality paper bags and exported 3.3 tonnes of noodles in Japan. Motivated, she continued to research and change the designs and packaging to upgrade products, meeting the needs of domestic and foreign markets.
Not stopping, Director Dao Thi Huong has also taken the lead in producing noodles from vegetables. Currently, the cooperative's noodle products are available in Russia, Taiwan (China), Australia, Japan, Laos, and Cambodia. Its Chu Green noodle was recognized as an outstanding national rural industrial product in 2021 and many other products have obtained 3-star OCOP certification. Each year, the cooperative earns from 900 million to 1.3 billion VND (53,330 USD) in revenue, with a profit of about 300 million VND (12,300 USD).

Nguyen Van Duc (born in 1991) became Director of the Luu Chanh Medicinal Plant Production Cooperative in Truong Son commune, Luc Nam district at the age of 26. He shared that his family has a tradition of growing and processing medicinal plants, so he has loved these plants since he was young. Especially understanding the value of the yellow camellia, he treasures the plant even more.
While he was a student at the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine (Hanoi), he dreamed of making healthy products from the yellow camellia. While studying, he researched the recipe for making packaged yellow camellia tea for convenient sale. In 2010, he had the first order of 100 zipped tea bags. With good customer feedback, he was even more motivated to create quality products.
In 2017, he and his family members established a cooperative. From only 500sq.m initially, now the cooperative has a workshop and display area of about 1,000sq.m and a showroom in Hanoi. Its main products are yellow camellia tea, cordyceps, honey, and lingzhi.
In 2021, the cooperative's yellow camellia tea was recognized as an outstanding national rural industrial product. On average, the cooperative earns revenue of about 2.4 billion VND (918,980 USD) per year, with a profit growth of about 20-30%. Duc plans to promote product sale on e-commerce platforms in the coming time.
Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Cooperative Alliance, said that Huong and Duc are dynamic and creative directors. In the province, there are many other dynamic cooperative directors who always look for new and effective directions for their cooperatives. In recent years, the provincial Cooperative Alliance has organized many conferences for cooperative leaders to share experience, and promote trade, helping them improve their management and business skills.
