Vietnamese cuisine leads in top 100 Southeast Asian street foods list

Updated: 15:33, 27/04/2025

Vietnam stands out in TasteAtlas's latest rankings of the top 100 Southeast Asian street foods, with 25 dishes making the list, the most from any country in the region.

Topping the Vietnamese entries is banh mi, ranked 3rd overall. The baguette was originally filled with just meat and seasoning. Today's versions include a wide range of ingredients like cold cuts, pate, and pickles.

A banh mi is filled with cold cuts in Ho Chi Minh City.

In fact, five different banh mi variations appear on the list: the classic at third, meat and cold cuts at 11th, roasted pork belly at 13th, cold cut at 65th, and meatball at 99th.

Close behind is beef pho at number 9, followed by variations like general pho at 14th, chicken pho at 37th, and seafood pho at 53rd. Pho is a noodle soup made with slow-cooked chicken or beef broth, rice noodles, and meat slices.

Variations of broken rice are also featured, with the classic dish ranked 20th and the grilled pork version at 33rd.

Snack-style foods are also represented, with banh xeo (crispy pancake) at 36th, banh khoai (Hue-style pancake) at 30th, and banh cuon (steamed rice rolls) at 83rd.

Other notable entries include cha gio (fried spring rolls) at 28th, nem lui (grilled pork on lemongrass skewers) at 35th, and bun dau mam tom (tofu and vermicelli with fermented shrimp paste) at 60.

For the "Top 100 Southeast Asian Street Food" list as of April 15, 10,080 ratings were submitted, with 6,973 verified as valid by the system. Topping the list was Indonesian dumpling siomay, followed by Myanmar's ohn no khao swè, or noodles with coconut milk.
