Young man passionate about traditional wooden houses

Updated: 20:33, 18/12/2020
Setting up his career at the age of 18, Hoang Van Ngoc (born in 1993) in Tay village, Tien Luc commune (Lang Giang district) had difficult times he ever thought he could not overcome. But those challenges have forged and helped him get successes today. Currently, Ngoc is the owner of a large bungalow manufacturing facility in Lang Giang district, creating jobs for dozens of local workers.

Just returning from the Luong Dinh Cua Award Ceremony 2020 held by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee in Hanoi, Ngoc continued to receive many congratulations from friends and relatives. Looking at the Certificates of Merit awarded by the Prime Minister and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, he said: "I want to give these noble rewards to my mother, who is the driving force to help me overcome all difficulties". Immediately after that, he returned to his daily work and is busy again with unfinished projects in the provinces and cities. Many wooden houses are being completed. The bungalows require high precision so the construction must also be meticulous.

Ngoc was born and grown up in Tien Luc commune. His family situation was difficult, so he had to quit school and worked as a hired worker at a relative's woodwork workshop. Thanks to his agility and hard work, he understood about carpentry as well as wooden products. Loving traditional architectures such as communal house, pagoda, church and old house in the North, he has visited many provinces and cities like Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thai Binh to study the bungalow architecture. Meeting the seniors, he diligently asked for information and took notes carefully. With accumulated knowledge and experience from practicing, in 2011, Ngoc opened a wood processing facility, specializing in construction of wooden houses with diverse designs.

Initially, due to lack of management experience, many projects were not profitable. Moreover, his young workers were not skilled, so they had to work and study at the same time. Meanwhile, most of the bungalows are made of iron, acacia and jackfruit wood... so Ngoc had to come to the provinces of Quang Binh and Quang Tri to buy wood for construction. He said: "The most difficult is probably the evaluation of the structure of the traditional wooden houses to find alternative materials to repair them so as to keep their old features".

As a member of the Committee of the Youth Union of Tien Luc commune, Ngoc is always active in implementing youth projects, lighting dreams of going to school of local children. In 2020, he supported two students with dangerous diseases; and presented bicycles and 10 gifts to poor pupils and residents in the commune.

With his consistent efforts to overcome difficulties, his job has gradually become stable. The facility has received many orders. Currently, each traditional wooden house is priced from 1.5 to 2 billion VND (65,000-86,500 USD). In order to have working capital, he has actively sped up the progress and coordinated with a number of other establishments inside and outside the district.

Currently, his family's traditional wooden house workshop provides regular jobs for 20 workers, mostly local youth union members and young people, with an average income of about 9 million VND per person per month. His facility earns about 10 billion VND (432,730 USD) per year in revenue.

Seeing the increasing demand for building materials, in 2016, he contributed capital with his friends to establish the Tan Thanh Investment and Production Joint Stock Company, which specializes in supplying construction bricks. After more than a year, the factory officially came into operation, creating jobs for about 120 workers with an average salary of 8 million VND per month. Earlier this year, Ngoc continued to invest in the livestock sector with a 4-hectare farm accommodating 11,000 commercial pigs. The first batch of pigs is about to be sold.

Recently, Hoang Van Ngoc was honoured to be one of the two typical young people in Bac Giang province awarded the 15th Luong Dinh Cua Award 2020 by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.
