Bac Giang organizes teleconference to promote lychee consumption

(BGO) - On June 8, the People's Committee of Bac Giang province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly held a video conference to promote lychee consumption at 30 domestic and foreign locations, including those in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and China.

This year, the lychee production in Bac Giang province is estimated at 180,000 tonnes. Despite the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the province has still seen the favorable sale of lychee in the past time, with more than 53,000 tonnes sold in the domestic market and exported as of June 7.

In 2021, in the context of the pandemic, Bac Giang has strictly managed Covid-19 infections (F0) (keeping them in industrial zones to avoid the spread of the disease in the community), ensuring safety for the Luc Ngan lychee area.

Currently, the trademark of Bac Giang lychee is being protected in eight countries, including China, the US, Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia. In March 2021, the lychee of Luc Ngan - Bac Giang became the first agricultural product of Vietnam to be officially granted with a geographical indication (GI) in Japan, paving the way for the promotion of GI protection of the fruit in other countries. It also serves as a "passport" for the Luc Ngan - Bac Giang lychee to enter other large and potential markets.

Speaking from Bac Giang, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Anh Duong thanked international guests, leaders of ministries and central agencies, and representatives of the Vietnamese Embassies, Consulate Generals, and Trade Offices in China, Australia, Japan and Singapore, as well as leaders of provinces and cities nationwide for their attention to and coordination with Bac Giang province to organize the teleconference on lychee consumption promotion in 2021.

He said that the teleconference connects Bac Giang province with 21 locations in provinces and cities across Vietnam; one at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, four in Guangxi and Yunnan provinces of China, two in Japan, one in Australia and one in Singapore. This demonstrates the efforts of the authorities and people of Bac Giang province; the attention and close direction of the leaders of the Party, State, ministries and central agencies; the attention and support of provinces and cities; the close and responsible cooperation of China, Australia, Japan, and Singapore; and the companionship of businesses, entrepreneurs, and media agencies at home and abroad, with the determination to win the Covid-19 pandemic and look towards a successful lychee crop.

The provincial leader committed to give drastic and specific directions to each group of issues of participants’ concern with the motto of creating the most favorable conditions for lychee consumption. He said the province will continue to promote traditional distribution channels for domestic and foreign customers, while deploying e-commerce ones with flexible delivery methods to ensure pandemic prevention and control.

On this occasion, Bac Giang province proposed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development guide quality management, granting of growing area codes and traceability of lychee products to ensure the conditions for export to China, Japan and some potential markets.

As the latest outbreak of Covid-19 continues to make its presence felt in Bac Giang province, local lychee growers are focusing on protecting their crop. A host of measures have been adopted to ensure their lychees are safe from the disease.
Bac Giang early ripening lychee exported to 8 countries and region
(BGO) – According to the Department of Industry and Trade, as of June 7, the province consumed more than 53,000 tonnes of lychees, 35 percent of which were exported to 8 countries and region.

(BGO) – As of June 6, Bac Giang province harvested and consumed nearly 50,000 tonnes of lychees, including more than 45,700 tonnes of early ripening lychees and 4,200 tonnes of main season fruits with the price of 12,000 – 32,000 VND per kg, reported the provincial Department of Industry and Trade. 
Luc Ngan daily exports about 150 tonnes of lychee to Cambodia
(BGO) – According to the Division of Economy and Infrastructure in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province), the district has recently set up 140 fixed weighting points which help sell more than 2,100 tonnes of lychee per day, mostly in the communes of Phuong Son, Hong Giang, Giap Son, Phi Dien, My An, Tan Moc, Tan Quang and Dong Coc.
