Updated: 15:40, 10/06/2023
The northern province of Bac Giang held a conference on June 7 in Luc Ngan District, its largest lychee growing region, to promote the sale of the fruit, which has now entered in its main harvest season.

With a total cultivation area of 17,300 hectares, Luc Ngan’s lychee output in 2023 is expected to reach 98,000 tonnes, most of which boast high quality and attractive appearance.

The district has 88 growing zone codes for export, covering 11,879 hectares, including 35 codes for China, 19 codes for the US, Australia and the EU, 32 codes for Japan and two codes for Thailand.

Luc Ngan also has 173 packaging facilities eligible for export.

This year, in addition to promoting exports, the district has also held various activities to push for the sale of lychees in the domestic market such as opening lychee orchards for exploration and direct purchase.

According to Luc Ngan Chairman La Van Nam, the main harvest season for lychees has arrived and the district pledges to create the most favourable conditions for farmers, traders and enterprises in harvesting, processing and selling lychees.

For his part, Bac Giang Vice Chairman Phan The Tuan said the province attaches importance to both domestic and foreign markets and is working to ensure that consumers can enjoy tasty, high-quality and safe lychees.

He added that with the Kep railway station now eligible for international operation, there is now one more mode of transport to export lychees to China, helping to reduce pressure on road transport.

On the occasion, representatives of enterprises and cooperatives cut the ribbon to begin distributing lychees and signed cooperation agreements to sell Luc Ngan lychees in 2023 and subsequent years.
