Prior to registering the protection, in order to timely bring lychee to Japan, the IPOV coordinated to the Department of Science and Technology in Bac Giang province to search for laboratories which are capable of analyzing the criteria and assessing the criteria upon Japanese requirements so as to help lychee GI to be protected in Japan in 2021 season.

He also affirmed that GI registration can be considered as the passport to Japanese market in particular and the world in general. GI granting helps affirm the prestige of Vietnamese products to Japan.

The MoST assisted Bac Giang province to register the GI protection for Luc Ngan lychee in Japan as the first ever product from Vietnam, making important mark and opening many new chances for exporting and consuming Vietnamese lychee in different markets.

To date, Vietnam has received and issued 701 enterprise codes, handled 69 documents to confirm foreign code and authorize the use of code and bar code, issued 11,797 protection certificates including 869 exclusive rights, 403 industrial design certificates, 8,320 certificates of national brand registration, 2,132 registrations of international brands.

Bac Giang: VietGap lychee cultivation area increases

(BGO) – This year, Bac Giang province sees a flowering rate of about 90-95 percent for the early-ripening lychee and 85-90 percent for the main-crop lychee (over 95 percent in Luc Ngan district), 1.5 times higher than those of the lychee season 2020. The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has just granted a geographical indication (GI) certificate for lychee grown in Luc Ngan district of Bac Giang province, according to the provincial Department of Science and Technology.
