At the meeting, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Duong Van Thai gave an overview of the province’s socio-economic situation over the past time. Entering 2022, together with the whole country, the province has applied the safe and flexible adaptation to and effective control of the Covid-19 epidemic under the direction of the Government.

On February 17, Bac Giang was the first locality in the country to have its provincial Planning for the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister. This term, the province directs accelerating digital transformation and application of science and technology, which has been concretized by specific resolutions, mechanisms and policies. In the coming time, the province wishes to receive the Ministry of Science and Technology’s support in this field so that Bac Giang’s science and technology sector can have a new development.

On this occasion, he stated that Bac Giang has the largest lychee area in the country, mainly selling fresh products and processing some. With a large fresh lychee production harvested in a short time, the selling faces difficulties. Therefore, the province ordered the Ministry of Science and Technology to introduce and search for lychee processing and preservation technology.

Minister Huynh Thanh Dat congratulated the province on its science and technology achievements, saying they have created a solid foundation to ensure the province's faster and more sustainable development in the coming period.

To make the province's science and technology activities an important driving force for local socio-economic development, he suggested that the province continue to allocate funding and human resources for science-technology and innovation activities; arrange staff, train human resources and strengthen apparatus, thus helping science and technology become one of the breakthrough solutions in socio-economic development and ensuring security and defense in the locality.

The province should step up the application and transfer of scientific and technical advances to agencies and sectors; give priority to high-tech, smart and clean agriculture; develop smart traffic, smart city, eco-tourism associated with spiritual culture, smart production and new environmentally friendly material technology.

It is necessary to develop mechanisms and policies to encourage businesses’ investment and the establishment of Science and Technology Development Fund; promote the development of large-scale science and technology enterprises that play a leading role in research and technology transfer activities.

Regarding the province's proposals, the minister assigned the relevant units of the ministry to coordinate in implementation in the coming time.

Boosting digital economy

(BGO)- In the Resolution No 111-NQ/TU of the provincial Party Committee, digital economy is targeted at 25 percent of the province’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and among the 3 key pillars including digital government, digital society and digital economy by 2025. In order to reach the set target, the province has seen dramatic transformation from the traditional economy to digital economy.

Building digital government to better service

(BGO) - In 2020, Bac Giang ranked 10th out of 63 provinces and cities in digital transformation, of which, the value of digital government ranked 7th nationwide, the highest ranking of the 3 pillars. This result was gained thanks to the province’s efforts in construction of infrastructure and completion of specialized information system based on digital platforms and run by digital procedures.
