Protecting Luc Ngan lychee area from pandemic
In the past few days, amid the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Party Committee, authorities and people of Luc Ngan district have mobilized all of their resources to control the disease. By May 24, Luc Ngan district had basically contained the pandemic, with no new community infection reported for nearly 10 consecutive days.
The purchasing point of Tran Van Doan in Kim street (Phuong Son commune) buys more than 20 tonnes of early-ripening lychees every day for export to China. |
Facing the above situation, all officials and Party members need to uphold the sense of responsibility and promote the pioneering role for the people, with a determination to join the people’s efforts to realize the goal of "ensuring a Covid-19-free Luc Ngan lychee area" and "All for the benefits of the people". Luc Ngan has sent officials and Party members to grassroots-level units and simultaneously set up the model of "self-managed checkpoints" and organized large-scale collection of samples of the entire population in villages and residential areas of communes and townships.
On this occasion, the Military Hospital 110 and Son Dong district’s Medical Center dispatched 14 groups of doctors and medical workers to support Luc Ngan in taking samples for Covid-19 testing.
According to the Center for Industry Encouragement and Trade Promotion under the Department of Industry and Trade, as of May 24, the province had harvested and sold more than 2,000 tonnes of early-ripening lychees, for 16,000-27,000 VND (0.7-1.18 USD) per kg. Early-ripening lychees are grown mainly in Phuc Hoa commune (Tan Yen district) and some communes in Luc Ngan district.
More than half of the harvested lychees are exported to the Chinese market, while the rest are consumed in the domestic market, especially the southern provinces.
