Vietnam Badminton team win three bronze medals at SEA Games 31

(BGO) - The final matches in badminton single event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) were held on May 22 afternoon at Bac Giang provincial Gymnasium which attracted thousands of spectators.

The women’s singles match witnessed the competition of two Thailand players Chochuwong Pornpawee and Chaiwan Phittayaporn. Chochuwong defeated her teammate to win gold medal.

Two pairs of Malaysian athletes Chen Tang Jie and Peck Yen Wei, Hoo Pang Ron and Cheah Yee See competed to each other at mixed doubles event. Finishing three games, Chen Tang Jie and Peck Yen Wei won overall victory.

At women’s doubles final, Indonesia duo Apri Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti faced Thailand pair of players Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn AimSaard. Both teams had flexible performances with tough shots and close chasing score. Indonesian athletes won 2-0 victory over Thailand rival to crown champion.

The gymnasium is filled up with spectators to cheer the athletes.

Two pairs of Indonesian players competed to each other at men’s doubles event. Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin won gold medal.

At men’s singles final match, World Champion of Singapore Loh Kean Yew faced second seed of the event from Thailand Kunlavut Vittidsarn. Two outstanding athletes showed best performances under exciting cheering atmosphere at the Gymnasium. Finishing two games, Kunlavut Vittidsarn won surprised 2-0 victory over his rival with score 21-13 and 21-13 and bag gold medal.

Tran Minh Ha, Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vice Head of local Organization Committee for Badminton at SEA Games 31 in Bac Giang province and Nguyen Van Thai, Member of the Executive Board of Vietnam Badminton Federation hand over medals, flowers and souvenir to medalists at men’s doubles event.

Finishing the individual event, gold winners were Thailand in women’s and men’s singles, Malaysia in mixed doubles, Indonesia in both women’s and men’s doubles.

So, the Vietnam Badminton Team won three bronze medals at women’s team, men’s doubles and singles of individual event. Vietnam sports delegation earned 206 gold medals and top the medal tally.
