The event was not only an academic recognition of Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet's contributions but also reflected the deepening cooperation between the two universities, especially in the context of the trend of increasingly robust internationalisation in technical education.

At the ceremony, Prof. Synn Ilhi, Rector of Keimyung University, personally presented the appointment decision and expressed his appreciation for Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet’s academic contributions and collaborative efforts.

Prof. Synn Ilhi shared that since their first meeting three years ago, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet had demonstrated an international vision and a strong spirit of cooperation.

"We are honoured to appoint Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet as an Honorary Professor and expect him to continue serving as a solid bridge between the two institutions," he said.

With a history of over 100 years and more than 70 years as a university, Keimyung University has appointed Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet as its 22nd Honorary Professor – the first Vietnamese citizen to receive this title – marking a significant milestone in the partnership between the two sides.

Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet is a leading expert in marine structural engineering and coastal disaster risk management. He is also a pioneer in international cooperation initiatives in Viet Nam.

Currently serving as Rector of Thuy Loi University, a multidisciplinary public university with high academic standing in Viet Nam and the region, he has played a key role in advancing the institution’s international profile.

With over 100 international publications and numerous awards from countries such as Japan, France, the United Kingdom, and from professional organisations like the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet has contributed significantly to the development of international joint training programmes for engineers and master’s students at Thuy Loi University.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet remarked that the title of Honorary Professor is not only a great personal honour but also a responsibility to further strengthen the relationship between the two universities and to contribute to the educational friendship between the RoK and Viet Nam.

Immediately following the appointment, he delivered a lecture titled “Numerical Models for Coastal Disaster Prevention: Case Studies in Vietnam.”

The lecture was highly praised for its strong connection to real-world applications, rich scientific content, and its clear demonstration of the role of data science in addressing climate change and natural disaster risks, key global challenges currently faced by many countries.
