Bac Giang- native althlete Nguyen Thi Oanh voted Vietnamese outstanding young face

(BGO) - The Vietnam Outstanding Faces Award is organized by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and Viet Nam Promotion Fund for Young Talents. Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh (born in 1995), Bac Giang Centre for Sports Training and Competition was selected 1 of 10 outstanding Vietnamese youths 2019. The award ceremony is slated for March 26, the 89th founding anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Profiles of the outstanding youths in various areas such as study, science, creativity, business and startups, national defense, security and social order, culture and art, sport and social activities were sent to the Jury of the Vietnam Outstanding Faces Award in 2019.

Based on evaluation and analysis of each nomination, the Jury of the Vietnam Outstanding Faces Award 2019 made secret votes to choose 20 nominees to the online-voting round from 10 February to 29 February on the website www.tainangtrevietnam.vn. 

After online voting, the Jury held the final meeting to evaluate their contributions and influence on the youths to give scores and make final decision.

Runner Nguyen Thi Oanh was highly evaluated by the Jury with her outstanding achievements at the tournaments in 2019, especially her noble efforts and impressive achievements at the 30th SEA Games. 

The Bac Giang-born athlete excellently won 3 gold medals in track and field event. On the competition day 10 December 2019, Nguyen Thi Oanh bagged a gold medal in 5,000 metres race in the morning and broke the SEA Games record in 3,000 metres steeplechase category in the evening of the same day.

As talking about Nguyen Thi Oanh, many people cannot forget her image collapsing after crossing the finish line in the 3,000 metres steeplechase. This is an emotional beautiful moment touching many hearts at the 30th SEA Games. Those achievements of Nguyen Thi Oanh became even more admirable because she had to suffer from kidney disorder and insomnia for a long time.

Returning from the 30th SEA Games, Oanh said with tears, “I thought I had to retire from my competition career due to the diseases but luckily I could overcome. Thanks to encouragements of my family, teachers, colleagues, friends and fans, I will try my best to make more contributions to the nation’s sports”.

With her great efforts, Oanh shined her light in the regional and international arenas and in her fans’ heart as well. Oanh became a good example for many young people in overcoming difficulties and devoting their youth to the nation.

Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh and other 9 excellent faces will attend the Vietnam Outstanding Faces Award ceremony scheduled on the occasion of the 89th founding anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union 26 March (1931-2020). Previously, Oanh was voted 1 of 10 nation’s most outstanding athletes organized by Vietnam Sports Newspaper.
