French press continues to praise Vietnam's success in fighting Covid-19

Updated: 19:35, 25/04/2020
A number of French newspapers have continued to hail the success that Vietnam has achieved in combating the coronavirus, with only 270 cases and no deaths.

The French Liberation Newspaper ran an article entitled ‘Covid-19: Miracle in Vietnam’ on April 23, stating that Vietnam has weathered the pandemic with no deaths, which is an incredibly special record in the world. The country has waged a drastic and effective fight against the pandemic to overcome the ‘very risky’ situation to enter the ‘risky’ period and has ended the social distancing.

The French Liberation Newspaper runs an article entitled ‘Covid-19: Miracle in Vietnam’ on April 23.

According to the article’s author, the world needs to recognise and praise Vietnam for its response to and control of the pandemic crisis despite limited sources.

The author quoted geographer Michaël Bruckert, who is present in Vietnam, as saying that "It is a very flexible way of combating the pandemic with the participation of the administration from the central to local levels and the close guidance of the Party Committees at all levels".

The daily Ouest-France published an article on April 22 entitled "There is no death due to coronavirus: how to explain Vietnam know-how?", which mentioned three reasons, including drastic and fast anti-pandemic strategy, the targeted restriction of the pandemic and the ability to enhance measures at any time.

Le Point weekly magazine also ran an article on April 23 featuring Vietnam’s ease of social distancing and no deaths due to the coronavirus. According to the article, this is a special success of Vietnam as it has curbed the number of infections at under 300 with no deaths.

The achievement was attributed to the Government’s quarantine policy and close supervision of infected and exposed people.

International experts and representatives from the World Health Organization have repeatedly shown appreciation for the reaction speed of the Government of Vietnam in the disease control, the article stated.

*Hanoi will continue to implement measures to prevent and control the pandemic and suspend operations of entertainment activities with the gathering of many people such as cinemas, bars, karaoke, games, massages, and others, according to the Hanoi Steering Committee for the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic.

* Vietnam recorded no new Covid-19 cases in the past 12 hours, with total cases remaining at 270, but five people who had previously been given the all-clear have tested positive again.

The relapsed cases were brought back to hospital for further medical monitoring.

According to the Saturday morning report from the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Vietnam has reported zero deaths from Covid-19 so far.
