New vitality in ancient land of Van Ha
BAC GIANG - Van Ha Commune in Viet Yen Township (Bac Giang province) is famous for its unique handicraft products such as rice paper, Van village wine, and rice noodles. Over the years, despite being affected by nature and the development trend of modern society, Van Ha people still retain many traditional cultural features.
Since the beginning of lunar December, Tho Ha market in Tho Ha village has already displayed all kinds of goods like food, groceries, clothes and household items for Tet.

The market is so crowded that vendors have to use the entire grounds of Tho Ha communal house to display traditional village products such as rice sheet, grilled rice cracker and traditional wine.
Under the shade of an ancient banyan tree at the village's sports and entertainment area, the elderly gather to welcome the early morning sunlight. Their calls to each other make the ancient village space bustling.
According to Nguyen Duc Thanh, Head of Tho Ha village, in the village of more than 1,000 households, there are more than 350 households producing rice paper.

On this occasion, each household produces about 7,000 rice sheets per day, one and a half times more than usual. Local people of the whole village produce about 73 million rice sheets to supply to domestic and foreign markets, with an estimated revenue of about 20 billion VND (830,345 USD).
Along with rice sheet producers in Tho Ha, households and the Van Huong Cooperative in Yen Vien village (old Van Ha village) are also focusing on producing traditional wines to serve the market during Tet.
Van Ha commune has 3 villages of Tho Ha, Yen Vien and Nguyet Duc with a total of more than 2,400 households and nearly 8,900 people. The whole commune has about 560 households producing rice sheets, grilled rice crackers, rice noodles; 140 households making wine.
Currently, 315 households have purchased machinery for production to improve the productivity and product quality to meet the market demand; thereby helping further develop the traditional products of the commune and bringing income to the people.

Along with preserving, maintaining and promoting ancient craft villages, ancient Vietnamese architectural complexes bearing the strong imprint of the Northern Delta culture and many cultural heritages (such as Van communal house, Tho Ha communal house, Tho Ha festival, mud ball wrestling festival, Quan Ho singing...), Van Ha commune has paid due attention and invested in upgrading task.
A new spring has come and spread across everywhere, promising much joy and new victories on Van Ha land.
