Rescue backpack for use in skyscraper fire
Nearly a week after the competition, the feeling of joy remained with Doan Manh Cuong and Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga - the inventors of the project "Rescue backpack for use in skyscraper fire". Explaining the reasons for choosing the topic, the two students said that in the process of national industrialization and modernization, the construction of high-rise buildings has been on the rise.

However, the fire prevention and fighting work have not been paid due attention, leading to many pitiful consequences. Especially, a fire in Lo village, Tan My commune made them more determined to implement the project with the expectation that each individual in high-rise buildings could consider this a solution in unexpected dangerous situations. Currently, on the market there are fire escape ladders and rescue umbrellas, however, their prices are expensive.
On the basis of research and reality observation, “rescue backpack for use in skyscraper fire" is calculated with parameters and quality to ensure safety for a weight of up to 150kg, applied for buildings of between 5 and 8 floors. Materials include a break, a bearing, cables, a rack, rolls and a speed warning device which are easy to find on the market.
The backpack contains equipment assisting people in distress, such as poison mask, face towel
"Rescue backpack for use in skyscraper fire" is researched and manufactured using many recycled materials, so the price is only nearly 1.5 million VND (64 USD), much cheaper than imported fire escape products on the market. Moreover, the use is very simple so that each individual can easily own it as rescue equipment, said teacher Cam Thi Ngoan.
Right after the project was completed, the school introduced the research team's product for testing quality and safety twice in 2018. According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hung, deputy head of the firefighting safety guidance and examination team (the Division of Fire Prevention and Rescue Police of the provincial Police Department), this solution fixes difficulties and meets consumers’ demand.
After many tests, the teachers and students of the Giap Hai High School acquired comments from the professional forces to make the product more perfect with a hope that it will be put into use soon.
