Samsung breaks ground on rooftop solar power project at Bac Ninh factory
On April 24, Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) officially broke ground on a rooftop solar power project at its SEV factory located in the Yen Phong Industrial Park, in the northern province of Bac Ninh. The project is expected to generate 2.59 million kWh of clean electricity annually.
Implemented in partnership with CME Solar Investment, the project will have a total capacity of 2.38 MWp in the first phase. It is projected to produce 2.59 million kWh of clean electricity per year and reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 2,460 tons, based on emission factors officially recognised by Vietnamese authorities.

This marks the first collaboration between SEV and CME Solar to develop renewable energy infrastructure at Samsung’s manufacturing facilities in Vietnam.
The project represents a significant milestone in the company’s journey toward realising its sustainable development strategy. It also affirms the commitment of both companies to supporting Vietnam’s transition to a green and low-emission economy.
In addition to its role as an investor, CME Solar is also fully responsible for the project’s technical design, legal procedures, construction, commissioning, and operations, ensuring all processes meet SEV’s stringent standards for quality and safety.
In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Kim Iee Soo, General Director of SEV, emphasised that the project is not only economically significant but also demonstrates Samsung’s strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility in Vietnam.
He described the initiative as a key step in Samsung’s sustainable development strategy, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and building a greener future for the next generation.
From the investment and implementation side, Chung Dieu Tuan, CEO of CME Solar, stated: “Vietnam is working towards a net-zero emission target by 2050, and businesses play a pivotal role in this transition. We believe that this collaborative project will not only be energy-efficient but also help shape a greener and more sustainable future.”
Operational since 2008, the SEV Bac Ninh plant is Samsung’s first mobile phone manufacturing facility in Vietnam. The rooftop solar power initiative is expected to be the starting point for a broader “greening” process across all Samsung factories nationwide.
The collaboration between Samsung and CME Solar not only highlights their commitment to sustainable development in Vietnam but also reflects the broader transformation of the industrial sector, as the global economy shifts toward sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions.
