Bac Giang city proud of traditions, steadfast toward the future
On June 7, 2005, the Government issued Decree No. 75/NĐ-CP on the establishment of Bac Giang city under Bac Giang province, marking a significant milestone in the development journey of the locality. The city has maintained an economic growth rate of over 17% per year. The economic structure has shifted toward increasing the share of trade, services, industry, and construction, while gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture.
The total annual budget revenue has consistently exceeded targets, enabling the city to balance its own revenues and expenditures and contribute to the provincial budget.
From more than 7,300 business entities in 2005, the city now hosts over 50,000 businesses, cooperatives, and business households—an almost sevenfold increase.
In agriculture, production value has grown significantly thanks to the application of science and technology. New-style rural development programs have been implemented drastically and comprehensively.
Urban planning has seen clear results. All of the city's area now has subzone planning. A series of major infrastructure projects have been completed, such as Residential Areas No. 1, 2, and 3; 3/2 Square; the provincial Convention Centre; Xuong Giang and A Lu Overpasses, the Northeast Ring Road; and the IOC Smart Urban Operation Centre.
In 2024, the expanded Bac Giang city (including the former Yen Dung district) was officially recognised as a Tier-2 urban area. From January 1, 2025, administrative boundaries was adjusted, with Yen Dung district merged into the city.
For many years, Bac Giang has been commended by the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Urban Association, ranking among the top 30 cities recognised as “Bright – Green – Clean – Beautiful.”
The proportion of solidly built public schools has reached 100%, the highest in the province, with 98.3% of schools meeting national standards. The city leads the province in both comprehensive and specialised education.
Social welfare policies have been fully and promptly implemented. The poverty rate has dropped to 0.55%, and the near-poor rate to 1.06%. National defense and security have been consistently ensured.
Focusing on new development phase
This year, the city will reorganise its 31 commune-level administrative units into eight new wards and communes: Bac Giang, Da Mai, Tien Phong, Tan An, Yen Dung, Tan Tien, Canh Thuy wards, and Dong Viet commune. Each unit will maximise its potential to boost the development of industry, services, and agriculture.
