She used to participate in the Road to the Olympia Peak contest and several English talent contests. Besides, she is able to play piano, sing and dance.
In recent days when staying at home for Covid-19 prevention, Giap Bui Viet Anh and other members are busy taking care of the fanpage “Covid-19 Update Information for Foreigners in Vietnam” to provide foreigners with latest news about Covid-19 pandemic.
The important information such as urgent announcements by the Ministry of Health to track the domestic and international flights to Vietnam with SARS-CoV-2 infected passengers and Prime Minister’s Directive No 16 on social distancing rule will be translated into English and updated on the fanpage only nearly 1 hour after they are released on television.
Preventing fake news to combat Covid-19
Viet Anh’s initiative to create the fanpage came from the Covid-19’s complicated developments in Viet Nam and worldwide. There is rather large number of foreigners in Viet Nam infected and facing high risk of infection but they are limited in accessing to information.

Although information about the pandemic and guidance on preventive measures are continuously updated on television and newspaper, a number of foreigners tend to get news through social networks.
In beginning, she reached the foreigners’ groups in Viet Nam, shared information about Covid-19 pandemic and conducted surveys to evaluate their responses and demands to build the fanpage. The fanpage was opened on 8 March to post the authentic news obtained from Viet Nam Television, the portal of the Ministry of Health, and Vietnam News Agency, which are translated from Vietnamese into English.
Viet Anh learns on the job. The biggest difficulty is to ensure precise and clear content when translating from Vietnamese into English. “It is a big challenge to ensure both precise and natural translations for native English speakers. Hence, I asked for consultancy of some English and American friends”, said she.
Great efforts in helping foreigners
The fanpage has 8 members as admins and writers including 5 high school and university students from different provinces and cities nationwide and 3 foreign advisers. The members work online. Viet Anh’s group posts daily from 5 to 7 articles, photos and video in English related to Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam on the fanpage.

“This number is possible to increase; thus our group must try more and more to improve the fanpage”, said Viet Anh.
She added, the fanpage “Covid-19 Update Information for Forergners in Vietnam” is firstly targeted to operate until the pandemic ends. Then, it will target suitable contents such as tourism, visa, security and order but still pursues the aim to provide information to foreigners.
