Social welfare work provides timely and practical support
Statistics from the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance) show that in May and the first five months of 2025, the living conditions of the population continued to improve, ensuring timely and practical social welfare support.
Specifically, according to preliminary results from the labour and employment survey, 97.1% of households reported no change or an increase in income in May compared to the same period in 2024, while 2.9% reported a decrease in income.

The General Statistics Office explained that the decrease in income was mainly due to household members losing their jobs or temporarily being laid off (45.8%); a decrease in the scale of household business activities (23.4%); an increase in input costs for household production and business activities (17.1%); and a decrease in the sale prices of products from household production and business activities (17.1%).
Additionally, according to the General Statistics Office, in the first five months of 2025, 29.6% of households reported having experienced at least one event negatively impacting their family life.
Among those affected, 28.9% of households were impacted by the rising prices of goods and services; 2.4% were affected by human diseases; 1.7% were affected by natural disasters; and 1.6% by diseases impacting livestock and crops.
Also, in the first five months of the year, 13.8% of interviewed households received support from various sources. Of these, 9.6% received assistance from relatives and family members; 5.1% received help from local government programs and policies; 4.8% from national programs and policies; 1.8% from charity activities by organizations and individuals; and 0.01% from other sources.
Notably, social welfare work has always been implemented timely and effectively by all levels and sectors.

Since the beginning of the year, the government has supported the people with 10.3 thousand tonnes of rice, including 6,000 tonnes for Tet Lunar New Year hunger relief for 402,600 people, and 4,300 tonnes for hunger relief during the 2025 pre-harvest period for 284,500 people.
