In mid-April this year, when a Covid-19 outbreak appeared at the Thai Thuan High School, the medical force and officers from the People's Committee of Ngo Quyen ward, where the school is located, urgently took control measures. Along with home isolation and health care for the infected cases, medical staff guided the school and families to monitor the health of students in the same class; disinfect classrooms with Covid-19 cases; and advise students to limit contact with others... Thanks to urgent and timely measures, no new cases emerged in the following days at the Thai Thuan High School.
In addition to Covid-19, the city’s competent units have also effectively controlled other diseases. At the end of 2022, when hearing a case of dengue fever in Residential Area No. 3, the medical station of My Do ward quickly investigated and identified the source of infection, zoned off and sprayed disinfectant chemicals in the area and its vicinity. It also reminded residents to clean up and collect waste; fill holes and trenches and cover water containers; and kill mosquitoes and larvae. After a period of treatment at the provincial General Hospital, the patient recovered and the dengue epidemic was also contained.
The good performance of preventive medicine makes an important contribution to disease prevention and control, and to the protection and care of public health. In the past two years, in order to strengthen the preventive medicine network, the city People's Committee directed the local Health Center to accelerate the construction and development of a model of multi-functional city medical center. In 2022-2023, the city has completed the construction and upgrading of health stations in wards and communes.
Every year, the city People's Committee provides funding for the Health Center to purchase equipment and materials for epidemic prevention and control; proactively ensure the supply of equipment, drugs, chemicals, consumables, protective equipment and biological products when an epidemic occurs.
At the same time, it invests in building and upgrading health stations in wards and communes, step by step consolidates and increases the operational efficiency of ward and commune health stations in performing preventive medical tasks and treating Covid-19 patients at home. The health stations provide medical monitoring and counseling, especially for the elderly, mothers and children; and promptly update local people’s health records. All health workers from the city to the grassroots levels are trained in the prevention and control of Covid-19 and other diseases such as dengue fever, influenza, hand-foot-and-mouth, thereby controlling infectious diseases and responding to emergencies.
Vaccination for children is carried out regularly with guaranteed quality. The city develops vaccination facilities, diversifies injection services and enhances cold chains for vaccine storage; while improving the capacity and professionalism of the medical staff from the city to the wards and communes. In the past two years, the city has always seen a high vaccination rate.
